Gerard Butler was born in Scotland and originally studied law, not acting. But when Gerard was in London at a coffee shop, he was approached by the actor Steven Berkoff. He offered Butler a role in the stage production of Coriolanus.
Not only is Butler smart, but he is also kind. While filming in Scotland, Gerard witnessed a young boy fall into a river. Butler jumped in and saved the young boy from drowning. He later received a Certificate of Bravery from the Royal Humane Society for his good deed.
Butler's first big film role began with Dracula 2000, but he continued on to star in movies such as 300, Phantom of the Opera, and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
